Belt-fed guns ? ....anyone have 'em ?

I'm thinking of getting a belt-fed gun like an M-53 (MG-42) or 1919 A4.

Any input on actual experience at the range ?!?

That looks exactly like a WWII German MG42, to one of which I owe my existence. My dad was a company commander with the 101st Airborn during the Normandy invasion. An MG42 caught him crossing a field and as a result he spent 4 years in military hospitals, the last of which was in Michigan where he met my mother.

I think functional crew served machine guns now cost several tens of thousands of dollars these days.

Each time you "have some fun" you'll need 4-figures in ammunition.

If you consider building your own as I did buy now. I made up my mind on a 1919A4 about 2 years ago, well come last year I see an add for demilled parts kits in the $3-400 (now $500 & hard to get) So I move fast and buy my kit. I probably will not shoot it due to my location and the cost of .308. But just think these parts are drying up fast so cost increases across the board.

One of the "problems" of the MG42 (Maschinengewehr 1942) was its' cyclic rate of fire was too fast at around 1.200 rounds per minute (20 per second). They would eat through the ammo supply too rapidly. The US adopted many of the design features of the 42 as the basis of the M60 machine gun though the US did elect to slow the rate of fire down to the 700-800 rounds per minute level.

A belt fed gun would certainly be a hoot at the range. Can't say it has much applicability beyond that. Unless of course your squad needs suppressive fire support or your bunker has special needs.

Regardless, anything that makes the government nervous can't be all bad.:D
